Aircraft history F-BHRS c/n 54 Caravelle III, made its first flight   on October 13th 1960 and was deliverd to Air France as F-BHRS 13 days later   and named “Normandie”. It was sold to Air Inter on March 20th 1974   and leased to Altair as “Citta di Tizzano”.
Accident description The aircraft was on take off run for a flight from   Milano-Malpensa when at 85 knots the 14th stage disc failed and engine number 2 caught fire. The take off was aborted immediately. The crew managed to stop the plane at the intersection N8 which is close to the Fire Brigade. The   plane was written off due to its age and the degree of damage. It was  used by the fire brigade and fitted with new aluminum panels to hide the   damage from the uncontained engine failure. The aircraft was scrapped 20 years later.
