Aircraft history | F-OBNI c/n 28 Caravelle 1A, made its maiden flight on March 10th 1960 and was delivered to Air Algérie 9 days later. It was converted to series 3 standards in February 1961. On January 14th 1964 c/n 28 was registered 7T-VAI. The aircraft crashed on 23. September 1973. |
Accident description | F-OBNI was on final approach to Orly Airport when the controller instructed the pilot to change the runway to allow Khroutchev’s aircraft to take off to Moscow. A right turn was initated when suddenly the Caravelle collided with a Stampe (F-BDEV) which was flying at 1000 feet bound for Toussus-le-Noble. A large part of the Caravelle’s cabin roof was torn off causing an engine failure. 1 passenger and the Stampe pilot died. However, the pilot of the Caravelle managed to land the aircraft safely at Orly. |
