Aircraft history HC-BAT c/n 125 Caravelle 6N, made its first flight   on July 20th 1962 and was delivered to Transportes Aereos Portugeses (TAP) as   CS-TCB 4 days later. It was sold to SAN and named “La Pinta HC-BAT on   November 27th 1975.
Accident description The aircraft took of Guayaquil-Simon Bolivar,   Equator when the left engine failed. The pilot decided to return to the  airport but cut off the wrong engine. The powerless Caravelle crashed into  muddy ground and broke in three pieces. 8   occupants died.
