Aircraft history HK-3962X   c/n 184 Caravelle 10B3, made its first flight on October 12th 1965 and was   delivered to Syrian Arab Airlines as YK-AFA named “8 Mars” 10 days   later. It was sold to Air Mali and leased to CTA on April 4th 1981 until   October 31st 1981. c/n 184 was leased to Corse Air International “Golfe   de Porto Marina” in August 1983 and this airline finally bought the   aircraft 5 months later and registered it F-GEPC. On December 1st 1984 it was   leased to Air Caledonie International and sold to this airline in February   1986. After a short lease to Aero France on March 21st 1990 it was sold to   EAS in December 1992. On November 14th 1994 the plane left Europe and   continued to fly for Iberoamericana (ex).
Accident description The plane received   a fake registration (HK-4029X) and was loaded with tons of Cocaine. At night   the plane took off bound for Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, Mexico, dried out salt lake. The aircraft touched down very hard and the nose wheel was  damaged. As soon as the plane was stopped several men, heavily armed,  surrounded the aircraft and off-loaded the freight. The Caravelle was stripped of its equipment, wings cut off and the remaining airframe bulldozed and burried to hide it from the US Anti Drug Force.
