Aircraft history HK1778 c/n 140 Caravelle 6R, made its first flight   on February 29th 1964 as F-WJAQ. Originally ordered by TWA it was not taken   up due to financial problems of the airline. It was delivered to Lan Chile as   CC-CCO “501” on March 6th 1964. In August 1975 it was bought by Aerostal Colombia
Accident description The aircraft took of for a scheduled passenger   flight from Bogota-Eldorado. After a loud bang in the rear part of the cabin   the aircraft returned to Bogota. 2 fly bys over the runway were made, as  the crew was unable to extend the left main gear. Finally the aircraft   touched down and veered of the runway and came to rest some hundred meters  behind the touch down point. All 57   occupants survived without injuries.
