Aircraft history HK-3855 c/n 265 Caravelle 10R, made its first flight   on May 6th 1969 and was delivered to Sterling 8 days later. It was leased to   Air Toulouse as F-GHKN on February 1st 1992. It returned to Sterling on   August 13th the same year. It was sold to SERCA Colombia (later SEC Colombia)   on August 23rd 1993.
Accident description During takeoff phase at 12:00 local time a nose wheel tire burst – the crew decided to burn fuel in 2 hours holding patterns to reduce the landing weight. The pilot landed with 3 hops and when an overrun seemed unavoidable he retracted the gear in order to minimize aircraft damage on overrun. The Caravelle skipped past the runway end coming to rest 100m past the runway   threshold. The aircraft was carrying a cargo of 4,7 tons of dynamite. The occupants were able to leave the plane without any injuries.
