Preparation for paint stripping

November 8th 2013: A huge scaffold was installed today. This will allow easy access to the complete upper fuselage. This is the only way to repray the aircraft safely. The scaffold was aquired on an auction and saves the project several thousand (yes!) euros on scaffolding loans!

The nose section will be completely paint stripped back to bare metal, and then repainted using aircraft paints and materials, with a more durable top coat.  The lower part will be polished up. The old paint had, we worked out, been applied in the 1960s, so it hadn’t done badly, but as you will see, it was well overdue for replacement! The blue stripe did pretty well but the white top suffered extremely from standing under a tree for almost a decade!

Stay tuned for more updates.
